Text description provided from the architects. Completed in TWO THOUSAND AND SEVEN, the bus shelter is really a prototype design that have been initially constructed on the key Campus of Wake Technical Community College. As the College’s enrollment grows and the subsequent demand for criminal court transportation increases, this prototype will be located on the entire current and future campuses. This bus shelter received a new 2008 AIA National Little Project Structures Award.

The bus shelter can be a simple yet refined architectural formula of two materially different elements: a heavy cast set up concrete wall that serves as structure and as a bench, and the steel canopy frame, created off-site, delivered by vehicle, and set into put. In elevation and area, the wall interlocks using the canopy forming a two bottle ‘L’ composition. The cover skin, in this case laminated polycarbonate, further expresses the lightness and translucency on the canopy.

The canopy composition and its associated skin color provide shade and protection. Either translucent polycarbonate solar panels or patterned laminated cup, are attached to the particular steel frame providing the weather tight cover. The options of skin further permits light to filter through animating the room with ever changing shadows in addition to patterns of light.
